Our mission is to equip people to bring the hope of Christ into multi-housing communities.

Mission 98 is the free online learning community of Community Growth Foundation. We exist to train, support, and connect people who are serving — or feel called to serve — residents in apartment and multi-housing communities.

Through practical resources, live training, coaching, and peer connection, Mission 98 helps churches, residents, property leaders, and ministry teams begin and grow ministry where people already live.

Why Mission 98?

The name Mission 98 was inspired by a survey in an affordable housing community in Texas, where as many as 90–98% of residents could not name a local church with which they had any connection. That finding helped clarify the need: many people living in multi-housing communities are not meaningfully connected to a church, even when churches may be nearby.

Mission 98 was created to help close that gap—not by asking people to come to the church, but by equipping Christ-followers to meet residents where they are.

Our Story

Mission 98 originated as the multi-housing ministry of Bear Valley Church in 2001. At the time, a small group organized community-building activities in nearby apartment buildings. The ministry soon became a larger team committed to serving apartment, mobile home, and motel communities.

As local apartment managers began to hear about what the team was doing, the team was invited into new communities, and the owner of one condominium community even donated an apartment for them to use as an onsite church.

In 2018 the multi-housing ministry became a 501(c)(3) organization and was named Mission 98 to reflect our desire to bring church to the 98% of multi-housing residents who do not currently have a church home.

In early 2023, a series of events indicated that God was moving us toward something new. As we began to follow God’s prompting and dream about how to reach more people, we began to develop the idea for a nationwide network supporting those involved in multi-housing ministry. We wanted to create a space where people could learn and grow. A space new ministries could be born from and established ministries could expand, all with the goal of reaching more people in multi-housing communities.

Mission 98 and the Community Growth Foundation Mission

Community Growth Foundation works to cultivate faith-based, multi-housing ecosystems through a signature approach: building trusted local relationships to activate an ecosystem around an apartment community, initiating and supporting “wholeness” programming, and multiplying what works through training.

Mission 98 supports the third part of that approach. It gives people across the country access to free training, shared learning, practical tools, and connection with others serving in multi-housing ministry.

Where CGF’s regional ministry work brings hands-on presence to specific communities, Mission 98 extends the learning nationwide.

98% of multi-housing residents are not connected with a local church.
