We are so excited to join our friends from CityLife in Nashville in the third annual National Apartment Prayerwalking Day!
Churches, individuals, church small groups, mission teams, prayer leaders, and nonprofits are all invited to saturate local apartments together with prayer on Saturday, November 2, 2024. It is also the hope that believers who are residents in apartments will join in and walk apartment communities as well.
The idea behind prayerwalking is to help create an awareness to those who live near or drive by apartments on their way to school, work and/or worship. Despite the high concentration of people in these communities, apartment communities are often forgotten or neglected mission fields.
CityLife suggests prayerwalking in groups of 4-6 and using the following for guidelines for the National Apartment Prayerwalking Day
- Park near the leasing office.
- Get your teams together and pray before you prayerwalk.
- Pray as you walk slowly through the apartment community.
- Have a pen and index cards with you. Index cards are for you to write down the names of those you come in contact with. Then create a follow up plan to get back in contact with them and so you remember to pray for them later. Some residents may want to have contact with you personally. Please use discernment but giving out contact information is generally discouraged unless you have a personal relationship with a person.
- Prayerwalk with confidence that God has already gone before you to prepare their hearts.
- When you do come in contact with residents let them know you are there to pray for their apartment community that God will bless them and make this a safe, wonderful place to live, work, play and serve.
- Communicate with love and compassion.
As you prayerwalk, ask the Holy Spirit to do the following:
- Break the strongholds in the apartment community
- Speak to the apartment management about their own spiritual condition
- See what the Father wants you to see
- Have spiritual conversations with residents
Recently, we caught up with Gary Jennings, the Executive Director of CityLife and he shared the following, “The National Apartment Prayerwalking Day is a strategic, compassionate opportunity to push back against spiritual darkness that exists in apartments. We desire for apartment communities to be flooded with prayer teams to cover as many apartments in the US as possible with His power, protection, and conviction. We also pray that God’s people will pray and obey to hear what God is already doing so they can join Him in His plan to transform apartments by making and multiplying disciplemakers.”
