Dear Mission 98 Community,
As a young twenty something, I shared a wall in an apartment community with a woman named Loraine.
I was full of fire, and Loraine was full of Jesus. We were an unlikely yet perfect match, and we became the kind of friends who walked into each other’s apartments without knocking, drank our daily morning coffee together, and chatted in the evenings about the important and not so important details of our days.
It was through those times together that Loraine taught me to read the Bible.
Loraine is part of the reason I understand the importance of having a Christian presence in apartment communities, and as I think about 2025, she is the person who continues to come to mind.
Loraine saw me, and even though we only shared a wall for a year and a half, and it’s been over twenty-five years since we were neighbors, AND we now live over 1,000 miles away from each other, Loraine and I still speak several times a week.
That’s how much influence my neighbor in an apartment community had on me. That’s how much influence my neighbor in an apartment community still has on me. That’s how much influence you or your friends or your small group or your church can have on those in apartment communities.
Long-lasting, life-changing, Jesus impact.

For those who want to grow and learn more about apartment ministry: Monthly webinars. In January, we are jump-up-and-down excited about hosting Dr. John Golling. God is moving in multi-family ministry and calling His people to be the light of His Gospel. Will we answer with sustainable ministries that shine an enduring brightness, or will our light sparkle and fade? In this webinar, we will examine a case study of an Apartment Chaplaincy ministry at Boulder Park in the Pacific Northwest and discuss strategies for developing ministries that stand the test of time.
